A student who graduates from Thiel College with a major in English, History, Mathematics, Biology, or Chemistry and a secondary education certificate will:

• Teacher candidates will demonstrate oral, written, and presentation communication skills appropriate to the field.
• Teacher candidates will demonstrate mastery of major content knowledge areas and pedagogical strategies to design engaging and meaningful instruction and learning activities.
• Teacher candidates will demonstrate their knowledge of diversity by addressing learners’ commonalities and individual differences to design inclusive learning experiences.
• Secondary education teacher candidates will apply the Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) standards to their discipline in the Secondary Education course of study, as assessed by the content field department.
• Teacher candidates will understand and demonstrate effectiveness by designing rigorous and effective lessons and learning experiences.

The three credits for ELL will be from:

Områdestudier/Bredde i biologiens disciplin - Dette kursussæt er designet til at introducere den studerende til begreber og principper for hovedområderne inden for biologifaget. De skal tages efter de grundlæggende kurser:

• BIO 290 Cellebiologi
• BIO 322 Genetics
• BIO 342 Biostatistik og forskningsmetoder
• BIO 392 Generel økologi

Studerende skal vælge ét valgfag baseret på tilgængelighed og hensigt. Valgfaget skal være et 200- eller 300-niveau BIO-laboratoriekursus, der er på 4 point undtagen BIO 350 – Principle of Immunology. Studerende kan også vælge NSCI 202, 209 eller 315.

Valgfri Capstone Experience-Disse tre kurser er designet til at integrere materiale fra en række forskellige kurser og oplevelser og for at give den studerende muligheder for udvikling som en moden og uafhængig videnskabsmand. Uafhængig forskning kan begynde i det yngre år.

Et gennemført forskningsprojekt under tilsyn af et fakultetsmedlem i biologiafdelingen kræves af den studerende med speciale i biologi.
